Meet your new Media Specialist, Ms. McCall!6th, 7th and 8th grade students, welcome back! 5th grade students, welcome welcome! I too am starting fresh at this brand new Galvin Middle School building. Could we be starting middle school (or in my case, a middle school job) at a better time?! In order to get to know me a little better, I thought what better way than learn about me than share my interests! My interests start with this very summer-esque selfie! I love music and festivals that host dozens of musicians all in the same place. I've driven as far as Tennessee to attend them! My most favorite event of the year is a more local one, Newport Folk Festival right here in New England in the coastal town of Newport, Rhode Island. To read more, click on the "Read More" below. I also love to read and to explore media, technology and new social media trends! In college as a Media Studies major, I dabbled in all different forms of media, from interning with my favorite radio station's morning show hosts at 4:30am to reviewing album releases and interviewing musicians for an indie Boston newspaper.
My interests led me towards a master's program to become a School Library Teacher when I realized just how effective my elementary librarian was in encouraging me to love to learn, read and explore new interests. At the time, the city I grew up in had cut all school librarians in the district so it was an issue that weighed heavy in my heart. Right now, I love to listen to mysteries and thrillers on audiobook (the "new" form of storytelling! I just started Hollow City by Ransom Riggs, the sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children) and I love to read blog posts. I like character-driven novels with dark storylines, like one of my all-time favorite books, White Oleander. I also love realistic fiction and read every Sarah Dessen book there was as a teen! Need a book suggestion? Don't know how to format a citation? Need a research topic? Or want to write online and need the right outlet for it? The Learning Commons doors are always open, and I'm always an email away at my WPS Gmail account: [email protected] Looking forward to meeting you, Galvin students, and learning along with you during this exciting year! Ms. McCall
